How do I verify my Google Business Profile?
Google chooses the verification method for you, and you can't change it. Often it is a short video recorded on your phone, sometimes a phone call, text, email, live video call or postcard. Follow the method shown in your profile, show your business name, location and proof that you run it, and expect a review of up to five business days.
Which method you will get
Open your profile and select Get verified. Google decides the options based on your business type, the public information about it, your region and your hours, and some businesses have to complete more than one method.
If video recording is offered, Google recommends using it. A live video call is only available during business hours, and a postcard code usually arrives within 14 days and expires after 30.
Recording the verification video
Record it on your phone, from inside your Business Profile. It must be at least 30 seconds, one continuous take with no edits, and recorded live. Pre-recorded videos are not accepted.
If customers visit you, show the street or nearby buildings, your business name on a permanent sign that matches your profile, and something only staff can reach, such as the counter, storeroom or kitchen.
If you visit customers instead, show landmarks or street signs near your business address, your tools, equipment or branded clothing, and proof that you run the business: yourself doing the work, or a permit, invoice or utility bill with the same name as your profile.
Do not show bank, tax or ID numbers, private details or other people's faces.
Why verification gets rejected
Google lists three common reasons: the business name is not visible on the storefront, the surrounding area is not shown, and there is no proof you are allowed to run the business.
If a video is rejected, open your profile on your phone and tap Review issues. Record a new video with everything from the first one plus what was missing, and upload it. If you still have trouble, try another method if one is offered.
While you wait for a postcard, don't edit your business name, address or category, and don't request a new code, because a new request cancels the one already in the post.
After you are verified
Google sends a confirmation email. If the Get verified button appears again later, verification wasn't completed, so try again.
Add the people who help you as managers of the profile instead of sharing your Google password. Google says it will never ask for your verification code, so don't share it with anyone, including people who manage your profile.
FAQ
Common questions
How long does verification take?
Google says reviews take up to five business days, and occasionally longer. Start once your name, address and category are final, so you don't need to change them during the review.
I don't have a shop sign. Can I still verify?
Yes, if you serve customers at their location. Google's guidance for these businesses asks you to show your area, your tools or equipment and proof that you run the business, such as a permit or a bill in the business name.
Can someone else verify my profile for me?
The video has to be recorded live at your business, so you or your staff usually record it. Someone helping you can prepare the profile and tell you exactly what to show. Norvik does this as part of its Google Business Profile setup.
